Lockhart Jewelers is a third generation locally owned retail jewelry store. We have one location in Shreveport, Louisiana and were established in 1960. We specialize in custom hand made jewelry and any other fine jewelry someone may need. We have a huge selection of engagement rings and loose diamonds to suite any taste or budget. Many customers have said to us the main difference they feel in our store is the comfort from talking to an actual manufacturing jeweler, not a commissioned salesman. Our philosophy is to treat our customers like our friends and always personally take care of them.
Where we came from
After World War II, Cary Lockhart came home to Ringgold, Louisiana and decided he wanted to learn the trade of manufacturing jewelry. Cary knew that in order to learn and become a true master of a skilled trade, he would have to find a journeyman and learn hands on from a master. This search for a master jeweler landed Cary in Shreveport, Louisiana learning under C.E. Mounce. Over the next 15 years, Cary mastered the challenging trade and in 1960 moved on to open his own jewelry manufacturing and repair business.
Over the next 30 years, from 1960 to 1990, Cary progressively conquered the wholesale jewelry repair and manufacturing market in the Ark-La-Tex. With all his success and booming business, Cary was in need of another jeweler as capable and detail oriented as himself. This came in the form of his son, Keith C. Lockhart, who entered the business in 1980.
Who we are now
In 1990, Keith and Cary decided it was time to take the next step in the jewelry market and open a retail location. They continued to handle any wholesale accounts which came their way, but steadily phased into dominating their market as a retail jewelry store. All along the way Keith was learning and mastering the trade from his father and also earned his bachelor's degree from Louisiana Tech University. When Cary felt that Keith was ready, Keith bought the business from his father and continued to run it with pristine attention to detail. In 1999, Keith began looking for his own free standing building to buy and soon found it at 6601 Youree Drive.
Where we are going
Once Keith found his new building and moved in, the next step in his business would be to find his own apprentice to teach, just like Cary had done. Keith's nephew and Cary's grandson, Clay Scott, was approached and began in the business in 1999. Clay began learning the trade hands on just as it had been done for generations before him while also earning his bachelor's degree in business from Louisiana State University Shreveport. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, Clay has progressed into helping run Lockhart Jewelers and will one day be the third generation to own this local business. Just as Lockhart Jewelers began as a manufacturing jeweler in 1960, so will they progress in the field of custom fine jewelry.
